Hey, fellow job-seekers, just wanted to pass this on: Elance is this website where you can contract for projects (everything from writing/translating to building financial models, etc.) to keep you busy while you're looking for a 'real' job. There are also similar websites out there like odesk.com, peopleperhour.com, etc. but I haven't used them, so can't vouch for them.
I already have one little gig, which won't pay much, but it's better than sitting on EF all day (c:

I've done some freelance work in the past when I was in the UK with both elance and freelancer.com. Found I got more work from Freelancer. Didn't think of doing it when I was out of work last year though.
I have a couple of questions though - are you getting unemployment benefit and if so what do the RAV/Unemployment insurance office think about the freelancing? Also, how do you declare what you've earned and do they deduct it from your insurance payment.

I am not getting unemployment benefits, so I have no idea of the implications.

we tried both elance and odesk and had good experience with odesk. I think they are equivalent.

I try not to click on links posted on forums; I usually Google it and click on the Google link to make sure it's a legit site. When I Google Origando, your site doesn't come up.
Just sayin'.

What happened to forum policy to allow commercial posts after a certain amount of posts and time as registered member?
Origondo is commercial. They collect funds from each successful project. Sure, registration is free, posting a project and making an offer too... but that is it.
So, I suggest the Origondo posts be removed and poster be notified regarding the forum details regarding hijacking and commercial posts.
JC
EDIT: This posted couple hours after two reports.

Mods, feel free to correct me here.
Edit: Based on the fact that post was deleted, I would say mods have backed you up, JC! I stand corrected.

I have used eLance several times as both project offering and project support. eLance is effective and well built to protect both sides against fraud.

I'm a full-fledged member, and I won't be getting any kickbacks from the link, so here it is: http://www.origondo.com
I looked at it--there aren't many jobs on there yet, but I intend to keep an eye on it.
oDesk only pays into a CH bank account in Euros, so Origondo has that advantage over them.
Anyway, something else to keep in mind.
PS: I didn't mean this as a 'Ha ha, look, I went around the rules' type post--I really think these freelancing sites are a great idea, and I've had success with them. I agree that the guy should have followed the rules, but I still think it's a good resource, and want other EFers to know about it.

we used elance and it was a crap experience. defo watch out for peeps that had a couple of gigs and the buisness they run is somewhat on a profound basis, means website, fon number etc is there and valid. because the guys we had just closed their business before we could hand in the changes we wanted...

Agree, you must be careful on eLance. Established companies/people, good ratings, etc. are signs of how serious they are. We are happy campers with the new website via eLance.

@Nubix - May I gently suggest that you put more effort into joining our community by posting on other threads of interest? You've already broken the rules once by advertising your business without the required number of posts or membership time. Once you've been around a bit and posted on other topics, people are more likely to trust you.
