In Switzerland it's common to have one day of paid paternity leave, not prescribed by law but as a non written rule that most companies follow. Some employers offer longer paternity leaves, but that's a rather uncommon perk.

Work law is regulated at a federal level in Switzerland, and describes minima. Your company might be more generous. Check with your HR dept and contract/employee handbook.

No, no! It is much more generous than that. You can have 1 day or 2 half days.

And AFAIK it is mandated by employment law.

Why should a man be allowed to leave work? Surely looking after a baby etc is womans work.

Re: Paternity Leaves:switzerland

According to several sources paternity leave is not regulated even at the federal level. For instance this is what the Beobachter says:

Quote:
Translation:

Quote:
As opposed to maternity leave, which was introduced in 2005, same as before there's no law regulating paternity leave, it relies on the generosity of the employer.

Don't worry mother is stuck in hospital or at home with a new baby doing all the work. Daddy has to go register the birth.
