Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

Wondering whether anyone on this forum could assist me with regards to working as a dental hygienist here in Switzerland. I am UK qualified and registered Dental Hygienist and would like to work part time here in Zurich.
I need to know where I need to register here in Switzerland, where do I get dental protection etc....
Also if anyone knows of any job opportunities in the city.
I will try calling the Swiss Hygiene Association too.
Thanks

You speak German fluently becaus lets be brutal, the English dental clientel is not exactly big in Zurich as it's too expensive usualy so people do it during return trips to home and so if you can't communicate, it's not going to be easy to advise cleints about their teeth now is it ?

But it is a valid one.

You could try using www.local.ch to find dental practices in your area and make enquiries that way regarding any job vacancies.

www.jobs.ch also has some vacancies for dental/medical jobs so worth looking there.

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

As far as I know the first step would be to have your diploma recognized here. Afterwards I would look in the Zurich or Zug area, and learn German in the meantime.

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

To back up Today_Only and Medea, the last time I was at the dentist the DH - who has been working here many years - mentioned that whatever authority checks these things has now asked her to submit proof of German competency (B1 or B2, can't remember which). This had to do with credentials, not permits, if I understood correctly. Apparently this is a new requirement.

The DH is non-EU, don't know if that plays a part, or not.

(Sorry for the vagueness, but I have trouble concentrating on small talk when sharp implements are in use. )

Anyway, hopefully one of the EF members working in the field will chime in soon with more concrete information.

Maybe contact these guys: http://www.sbfi.admin.ch/themen/0110...x.html?lang=en
as they are apparently responsible... Or should as least be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

Sorry, I am so late in responding! You should write to the Swiss dental association, which is called SSO. ( www.sso.ch or jobs@sso.ch) they provide an employment list for offices searching for a DH and a list for DHs looking for jobs. Write me a private message, if I can be of further help! All the best!
( I am an American DH :-)

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

I hope it is OK that I post here...I didn't want to open a new thread with the same title.
I am asking this question in behalf of a friend who is a Dental Hygienist- are they in demand in Switzerland?
As someone wrote above, people usually go to Germany or go to the dentist when they go home for holidays because it is cheaper.
But, I am asking more of an FIY.

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

I would think so. There are plenty of dentists here and plenty of people who go to see them.

Might need qualifications recognising first though. This is the organisation for dentists so they may deal with hygienists too.

You are a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, pharmacist or chiropractor and would like to work in Switzerland?

Re: Working as a dental hygienist in Switzerland

Actually, the Swiss Dental Association is called SSO. ( Societe Suisse de Odonto...?) if you write to jobs@sso.ch you can obtain a list of all posted jobs for dentists, hygienists and dental assistants.

https://www.sso.ch/home.html

However, the agency which controls the qualifications is the Swiss Red Cross, they are responsible for the recognitions of diplomas:

Schweizerisches Rotes Kreuz
Anerkennung Ausbildungsabschlüsse
Werkstrasse 18
CH-3084 Wabern

Tel: +41 (0)900 733 276
