As is often the case, there are several offices for different industries,
Yes... but you only have one AHV number don't you? My first employer in Switzerland got me an AHV number... and I've used the same one ever since for different jobs.

The employer got it from the relevant Ausgleichskasse.

Re: How to apply for AHV (?) card?

Tom was right, the employer must register his company, and issue the AHV card to his employee,

Proof of insurance

The insurance certificate confirms the employee that he was notified by his employer at the competent compensation fund. So the employee has the assurance that the issuing Checkout now leads his individual AHV account. The insurance certificate is always issued if the insured person is registered by his employer in a compensation fund. In the course of working life, it may be that the insured receives multiple insurance undertakings of different compensation funds.
The self-employed, non-employed persons and pensioners receive no proof of insurance.

[in the past my experience was different to the above, but times change, and hey ho, it's off to work we go... ]

Re: How to apply for AHV (?) card?

Is it a company or an individual that you are going to be working for?

They will have to pay your AHV. So ask them which AHV company they will be paying your AHV to... and get them to call them and get you an AHV number. If they can't manage that... then they won't manage to pay your AHV and you should probably go and work somewhere else!

The Gemeinde where you live will have the AHV number on the personal file, it is issued on first registering in Switzerland, and remains for life.

My (Visana) European health insurance card (EHIC) has my AHV number printed on it. Maybe yours does too? www.xxxx.yyyy.zz

Umm, no, it doesn't, mine has changed over the years.

However, that may have been due to a change in systems sometime in the '90s, but I certainly have (at least) two different numbers.

Re: How to apply for AHV (?) card?

Yes mine has also changed with the last revision, but we are talking about today, not 20 years ago.

The Gemeinde will know your AHV number, but they don't issue EHIC cards.

Your health insurance issues you your EHIC card, and on mine is printed my AHV number.

Don't know about EHIC cards, but my Swiss insurance card has my AHV number on it. (just checked)
