Salaries in USD - working for the UN
I have been offered a job at the UN in Geneva, but currently have a similarly good job in Brussels. I understand that the UN professional staff have salaries calculated in USD but paid in francs (according to some official UN exchange rate). However with the current jump in the exchange rate, working for the UN might become less interesting in my case.
Is it correct to assume that the UN staff will still be paid the same salaries in USD even though the cost of living in Geneva in francs has just gone up by 20%? This would mean that I will now spend 20% more of my income (USD).
Am I correct to assume this or would the UN adjust for this kind of fluctuations?
I have to decide on this job in the next few weeks, so would really appreciate some advice.
