Accident during notice period

During notice period had an accident 2 weeks prior to leaving date (company had given 3 months notice)-this resulted in extension of notice period. Now require surgery as a result of accident which will be carried out next week and the surgeon has said I will be unable to work for a minimum of 8 weeks. Question is two-fold, although registered with RAV and with a good counsellor I am not yet receiving payment from them as my notice period was extended-however as my notice period was already extended i do not think the company will extend further - will i still qualify for any payment? If so from whom? I have all the medical certificates to date and with the latest just having been sent, off to the Accident Insurers SUVA so I have followed procedure. Despite looking I cannot find the answer to if you are on notice period what happens in an event like this!

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated as its more than stressful at the present time! Thanks in advance

Re: Accident during notice period

You should still be paid by the accident insurance. My OH had an accident a few weeks after he left his job, he was now self employed. However as accident insurance covers you for a month after you leave your job, it still paid out and paid him loss of earnings until he was signed fit to work again.

Re: Accident during notice period

The accident insurance might pay less than your full salary (maybe 80%) and depending on your work-based sickness insurance there could potentially be a gap, but probably only if you worked less than 12 months...

The sickness insurer should make it clear, the other issue may be that they pay via your employer rather than direct, and there may be quite a lot of paperwork to deal with...
