Working in Summer in Switzerland as a Foreign Student?

Hello,

I heard that foreign students can work 100% in summer time. I googled but not found any official/non-official information about it.

I study master in CS, I have being my internship for 5-6 months, for now I can work 15 hours per week.

So is there any one here who knows something regarding this topic?

Thank you

Re: Working in Summer in Switzerland as a Foreign Student?

Hello martinboss

I have looked, but sorry, I've also not been able to find any rules or laws about this.

I suggest you ask at the University where you are studying... they usually have some sort of employment office for students, or maybe an advice centre for foreign students, and perhaps they will be able to explain to you how much you are, and are not, allowed to work during the summer break.

Then, I suggest you go down to the city/municipality immigrants' office, the same place where you are registered to study here, and from where you got your permit, and ask them to show you the law to confirm (or disprove) whatever the people at the university told you. Than you'll have it in writing.

Perhaps you are allowed not just x hours per week, but x hours per week averaged over the year, or something like that. Sorry I don't know more.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I will ask it if i do not have certain answer here. My friend told that foreign students can work 100% in summer time. I think that he worked like that in the last summer.

thank you.

Bullet point 3, under "Provisions". A 100% holiday job needs to be approved/requires a special permit.

Regulations may vary depending on the canton, the above is for Zurich. So clarify upfront whether Bern has the same regulation - best to get in touch with Bern authorities. https://www.vol.be.ch/vol/de/index/d...n/kontakt.html

Thank you very much for your link. Its very useful for me an i think that i am sure now.Of course i'll call the bern office .. I want to ask you what does "special permit" mean?

Normally to work/intern somewhere we need a letter from university.

In this letter, head of our department says "this guy can work/do internship"

so, this special permit is the similar thing or not?

thank you
