Possible jobs at hand-car washes??

Hi everyone I'm planning on moving to Bern from Manchester, one thing i have noticed in most countries i visit is hand-carwashes and they are usually good places to get a job easily. Is this the case in Switzerland? or do they only use the machine automated ones..Thanks

Re: Possible jobs at hand-car washes??

I do not know about Berne.

The places we have been in Switzerland, have not seen any hand car washes. People tend to use both the automated and the hand operated - does not seem to be shortage of them, and prices seem competitive.

Bear in mind if you got a job in a car wash, you would need a Work Permit.

Re: Possible jobs at hand-car washes??

There are a few hand car washes but not very many. They have then in some of the commercial center car parks like at the Coop Center in Crissier and the Coop Center near the Ikea and there are two car parks in Lausanne that have them. (in case anyone is looking for one.)

It's not likely you'll be able to rock up and find a job doing this.

Re: Possible jobs at hand-car washes??

thanks for the replys i was thinking the chances of finding them would be slim but there seems to be a couple there, no harm in me going and handing out my cv and introducing myself i have allot of experience with car valeting ect, will be travelling around the canton of Bern for about a week trying to get any job i can. Visited Switzerland last year and can't get the idea of living and working there out of my mind "ha even if its just for this summer. The work permit thing should be ok as a EU Citizen i think. Thanks

Re: Possible jobs at hand-car washes??

Huuuhhh ...maybe there`s a niche market for handwashing/valet service of cars?

I see most everyone does the drive-thru automatic car wash - that seems to leave very fine scratches on the paintwork (nice shiny new cars).

Others do the self-service where you keep feeding SFr2 coins into the water dispenser (high pressure I think) - never found out what pressure because everytime we`ve been there the "fanatics" are washing their cars and take hours about it, so we give up, go home, fill buckets and do it ourselves out in the driveway.

I`d love a service where someone came to the house to wash my car!
And vacuum it, and shine the windows, and give the inside a good wipe out with nice smellies. Would be worth more than one pays at the automatic car-wash.

A friend of a friend does this in the Zurich area. I can't for the life of me remember the name of his company though. I'll see if I can get his details and post them here.

Provided you can get a job that shows you will not become a burden on the state, yes otherwise no.

We have used this company and I can't reccommended him enough. Great customer service and the car was immaculate afterwards - that's after 3 years and kids using the car as a moving resturant/rubbish bin/playroom.

Another reason why it's better over here on this side. We have that.

So get some cards printed for handing out, and start your own business. Not this week though, your chamois will freeze to death!

Check the regulations first. The authorities here are quite strict about what gets washed down the street drains from a commercial enterprise.

My car gets cleaned once a year, when it is serviced.

Not just commercial. I can't wash my car on my own driveway.

I too don't think it is legal to wash your car just anywhere.
