Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I have lost my wedding ring. I am fairly sure it is at my apartment.

If anyone has a metal detector that they could use or I could rent or borrow I would be most grateful. There would be a bonus if my ring was found too - pretty sad :-( I live in Thalwil (9 minutes from Zurich on the train) and would be willing to meet you to pick up the detector or pay your transport costs.

Please message me if you can help.

Many thanks, Newly-wed with missing ring

Given most Swiss buildings are built from reinforced concrete (unless you live in an old building) a metal detector won't help. The whole building will likely be full of metal.

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. I do live in a old wooden building. I have gone through the trash.

If it somehow fell in the toilet would there be any way to find it?

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

Depends on whether you've flushed or not! You can stick your hand in to feel if it's slid back in the toilet, but once it goes over the trap, it's gone for good.

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

You are likely to be pick up too many erroneous signals in a building - as soon as you get close to anything metal it will go off. Metal detectors are designed to find stuff that is "buried" - unlikely to be an issue with your ring.

Re-trace your steps back to when you consciously remember having it - and then step forward from there. Do you wear it all the time? Take it off to do something specific? If so what and where? Could it have falled behind/between units?

Do you have open floorboards?

(If you do - the nails will set off the detector anyway!)

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

I had this problem last year - I was convinced that my son had taken it into the garden and dropped it there, so I bought a metal detector. I finally found the ring after 4 or 5 months wedged between two cushions of the sofa where we'd already checked dozens of times..... You'd be welcome to use my detector but I suspect I'm a little too far from you to make it a practical proposition.

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

I too live in Thalwil and this morning I drove by a troupe of english speaking people armed with dowsing rods, metal detectors, infrared cameras and with what appeared to be a mine clearing robot on Seestrasse. Did you hire the A-Team to find your ring?

Re: Metal Detector? Lost Wedding Ring.

Was the ring loose on your finger, would it slip off and be inside a glove? Or have you mislaid it, and left it beside the bath?

I doubt a metal detector inside a building will work: you are looking for a small piece of metal, surrounded by small pieces of metal, nails, hinges, electric wiring etc, etc.

Have you seen jackdaw birds nearby?

We figured that would be the case - the question is where was it found?

@Hausamsee, I have a friend who has just lost a sentimental earring at the Thalwil badi, do you still have the metal detector and if so can we pick it up tomorrow to use at the badi in the morning? My friend would pay you for the usage. I tried sending you a message but got a screen stating you do not accept messages. Thanks very much for your time.
