Asking a company about a potential salary range before applying?

I have seen a few jobs where there is very little salary information available online.

Is it considered rude or inappropriate to ask a company about a potential salary range before applying for a job?

Yes. Do not EVER ask for a salary range before applying. Maybe in a first interview/conversation, but never before.

What a sad state of affairs. This is where many companies and HR departments can grow up and be transparent about what they're looking for.

You don't need to tell them your (real) name when you call. And don't forget to block your number.
