RAV Oerlikon

As I will be joining the ranks of the unemployed, does anyone have experience with the RAV in Oerlikon?
That seems to be the RAV where I need to go to (and hope not to have some of the experiences read here on this forum).

Thanks

Re: RAV Oerlikon

was briefly under their "care" before moving to a different district 5 or 6 years ago.

The guy I was assigned suggested I apply to Burger King. I decided against it, as my postdoc was in another field entirely.

That said, the quality and standard of RAV advisor varies tremendously within each office. Just be on time with forms, fill them in as requested and it should be ok.

Re: RAV Oerlikon

I am with these guys (next appointment in 90 minutes), and in line with what other posters have said, in my experience generally the RAV folks are friendly and competent, although there are always some exceptions to the rule. Also, good people sometimes have bad days. Remembering also that these good folk carry a significant case-load, and their natural inclination is to process you through as fast as possible ... so it is doubly important for you to be well-informed and prepared before any meeting. The 'well informed' is paramount in the whole RAV/ALK/ALE exercise. Ignore this tips at your own peril.

Also, if your German is not up to scratch (that is, if you need the help of a dictionary to translate and/or read the forms), then I suggest most STRONGLY that you take an interpreter, otherwise you run the risk of misunderstanding vital advice or information, and you will suffer administrative sanctions (think $$$ foregone) as a result of any mistake you make as a consequence. I've been 'in the system' now for 18 months, so if you should have any questions, please PM me direct. Best.

Re: RAV Oerlikon

Seeing that I have a Masters degree in German (and other) languages I do not think that will be a problem.

I have already gathered all documents and made copies of whom I contacted in finding a job, what I have done so far, so hope I am well prepared.

Re: RAV Oerlikon

Here is a top tip: Last time I had to deal with them did I have a job interview on the same date as my first appointment. Sounds banal, but me showing up in a suit helped the first impression a lot (besides my big folder full of applications...). This pays off: I have the feeling the advisers have quite some "Spielraum" how they treat you and if they give you crap work assignments or not...

Not specifically about RAV in Oerlikon, but about being unemployed in general, in Switzerland, and various [in part conflicting] tips for getting along with the RAV advisor and requirments...
