employment advise

Hi Guys
I'm looking for some advice please.
My husband has an interview at a hospital next week. Here in the Uk he gets his basic salary plus shift allowances. How does this work in Switzerland? Will his annual offer include working shifts or will this be paid extra?? Just want to have some info before he goes in for the interview so he knows what he should be asking for....
Many thanks
Caroline

Re: employment advise

Payscale.com / Glassdoor.com - it'll show you what you're looking for. And, it'll depend on many, many factors such as canton, city, experience, educational degrees, etc. etc.

About the shift allowance - in all likelihood, it'll be an extra payout and should be clearly mentioned in the employment contract. Regular contract is typically 42 hrs. per week and anything extra is paid out at different (higher) rates.

Coming from abroad, the "salary question" is tricky one. And "I expect market-conforming salary" is usually the best answer than throwing a number at them. http://www.englishforum.ch/search2.p...alary+question

Re: employment advise

Unless your husband is way down the ladder, salary is not typically discussed in a first or even second round interview depending on the process. If for some reason it is, avoid mentioning numbers unless you have a very good idea, and even then it is a basic negotiation fact that whoever lays the cards on the tables first have most often lost.

Finally, salary expectations should be part of the research your husband does before going to an interview. If he is a so-called 'professional', there might be a union or organisation that can provide an estimate on what a candidate with his experience level, skills and background can expect. As other posters have pointed out, there's no way of telling if he's the janitor or the surgeon so more info might get you better answers.

Re: employment advise

I don't want to sound unhelpful but how would we know what his contract states?

Would it not be better for your husband to ask his potential employer these questions?
