Somel1, you need also to take into account few things:

1) I assume that you are a female (correct me if I am wrong). It is very usual that women stay at home here, for the first couple of years until kids go to school. The attitude towards moms working long hours (especially single moms) is something a progressive Scandinavian woman will have a hard time adjusting to.

2) You will often get the sarcastic comments from your coworkers (including females) if you need to stay at home to take care of a sick child, get out earlier from work or similar. And you will get comments or looks in kindergarten when you come to pick up your child late.

3) salary and career progression is indeed good here. Also opportunity to travel (for a weekend trip) is way easier than from Sweden. The costs of kindergarten are astronomical, though, so it offsets it a bit.
I know plenty of Swiss married women who don't work & there husbands earn far less than 120k, it's not that unusual al all.

Re: Competetive Salary Package

Actually, for high-earners then the Swedish social security system is quite bad. AHV is capped at 2 kCHF which is really not much. You get a long maturity leave but the pay is also capped, although a bit higher at 4.2 kCHF. You can save 3k per month here and pay your maternity leave yourself.

As someone who have moved from Sweden to Switzerland I have figured out that gross salary is comparable between the countries. Some things are cheaper in Sweden but the 56% marginal tax rate makes up for that I have 5 weeks of vacation which is the same as what I had in Sweden.

I have 3x the gross salary here in Switzerland so it was a no-brainer for me.

Välkommen till Schweiz!

Re: Competetive Salary Package

Meeyat is right I am a female aged 39 years old. I have an American friend that lives and work in Zurich and she have always told me that many people do not like women being successful at work and perhaps she is right. In my current job more or less all women have children and are trying to fit in staying home with sick children etc. No one is moaning about it.

Regarding the 98 week maturity leave here in Sweden for me it is not the money that makes it unique but instead that I can keep some days up until the child is 12 years old and hence extend the summer holidays without even having to get permission from my employer as they are by law not allowed to questioning/judge you from taking the maternity leave whenever you like.

I have figured out that the childcare is very expensive in Switzerland however that should be compensated by the higher salary I reckon.

I can't imagine a company here negotiating on number of holidays or pension as that would cause a nightmare of politics and admin with all the other staff

Re: Competetive Salary Package

depending on the employer, you will get 4-6 months of paid maternity leave and they are usually flexible on longer - albeit at your cost.

if you have a setup with reliable friends for company and babysitting, it might be better to remain in Sweden. You have the money aspect to see where you land financially but a solid network for friendship and assistance takes time to establish.

You will get usually 25 days of vacation here plus around 20 public holidays - unless they fall on a Saturday or Sunday....! Most employers are also reasonable with accrued time, I actually work so flexibly that my boss has to remind me to log vacation days.....if I have a good level of overtime hours, this influences my bonus.....I like burning those hours off

Anyway, what you must also consider is where you can simply hop in the car and drive to when you're here and other things. I assume you're in southern Sweden so you're not too far detached but, still, a couple of hours in the car will see you often in a new country and/or culture.

Some years it's 11 weeks.

It's June 20 - August 30 this year, so kids will start school in August (albeit the 31st), I've only seen that happen once before in the past 25 years.

Normally it starts the first Monday in September, and ends the last Friday on or before midsummer.

Re: Competetive Salary Package

Well Tom and Sean Connery seem to have got it sorted with their holidays/overtime so there is hope

I am currently living in Stockholm but I am from the north of Sweden. I don't have a support network here either so that won't make a difference. If I had it would probably be a no brainer whether to stay in Sweden or not.

I have agreed to fly over for an interview in the end of the month so we just have to see how I am getting on. In my favour is that the owner of the company is not Swiss so maybe they will be a little bit softer on the working mother side. At least I can hope so.
