How can I get a trading job? I am ready to start from zero

I saw a trading company in Geneva, who is often recruiting a 'Trading Operator' who can speak Chinese and who has an experience in a similar position for a minimum of 3-5 years in Grains.

So as a Chinese native speak who doesn't have any experience in Grains, how can I get this kind of position in the future?

I have a business degree and 1 year marketing experience in China. Is there anywhere I can start to learn this aspect of trading knowledge or obtain this kind of work experience even without salary?

I am willing to go back to school or work without income in order to get this kind of job in the future. But how can I start? As a woman who is 32 yrs old and has a 2.5 yrs old son, is it too late to start from zero? But even so, I would like to do it!

Many thanks.

I'll bite... if you don't even know how to "get in", some other area might be better for you. Trading is a cutthroat business, not many are cut for it and can do it for long time (for example I am not, thank you very much).

Competition is big, but that's valid in many fields here in Suisse. One former GF had to go through 14 interviews, just to get a different trading position internally (she was already trading something else). The amount of backstabbing from her own colleagues competing for same she had to endure is amazing.

It's not technically impossible, you have right mindset, personality, will dedicate huge amounts of energy and have a lot of luck. But take all this, focus on something else, and the results might be much more interesting and achievable.

I'd agree . One of my best friends is a trader in one of the biggest companies in the world.

From what I seen from him, forget about it if you have a child, unless you never wish to see it.
To get in you need to be hired as a trainee and complete their training program. You also need a masters (he did in any case)

He'd be in front of the computer for 10h a day without moving etc......No thank you.

FTFY ... Food is delivered to their desks and they are there from 07:00 to 19:00 h.

They start young and burn out fast in a toxic environment.

Re: How can I get a trading job? I am ready to start from zero

It's not all everywhere like that. I come from a trading company, let's say global top 5 in terms of volumes. Sure, they make longer hours, but it's still ok here in Switzerland. And of course you are well paid for it.

What I can say is there is really no space to "start from zero" especially as there are many other ppl. willing to step in with relevant experience at trainee level.

12h per day is not a big deal.

Investment banking (e.g. M&A) in NYC is from 8am to 1am, EVERYDAY, with only 2 days off per month.

Sounds like the odds are against you, which means the pay off is probably even greater. Go for it if you really want it. I've seen too many wildly successful people who really should not be where they are today. China, trading, grain? sounds like lots of opportunities there. Why not just start watching and studying how the market moves?
