Tom,
I showed it to her.
She laughed, and said:-
"You need to get a life"
Her words, not mine.
She's not the only one, does she come out with any original lines too ?

Ok, I think this thread is not going much further.
Many thanks for all the helpful comments.

I was hoping to learn from similar experiences, but it's ok.
I feel sure we can come to some agreement with our wonderful nanny.

As for the legal aspects, I will be sure to look into them.
She's only been with us for 2 years full time, so we still have a lot of
learning to do.
You know how it is.
Maybe I can twist her arm into working for us for free, as a volunteer?
Or better still ask her to pay for the time she spends with our kids..
Call it "educational work practice"

Maybe you could let her read this. Then she won't want to work for you any more.
Problem solved.
I think the little smiley there at the end indicated he was being sarcastic...

Anyways, it sounds like you have a good relationship with your nanny - hopefully you can come to a solution that both sides are satisfied with.

Re: Nanny's salary during family vacation

Dude - it's not hard...
  1. Pay her for the week you are away, because as her boss, it was your role to make the contract clear
  2. Tell her she can't take leave in September because (a) she has no paid leave remaining and (b) you have no replacement if she takes unpaid leave
  3. Tell her she needs to clear any future paid or unpaid vacation time with you before booking
  4. Explain that even though she's a great nanny, if you can't co-ordinate vacation time together, then her employment probably won't work out in the long term.

Or, you know, just keep doing as you have been, since it doesn't seem to have bothered you too much.
