Benefits claim rav

Hello.

Is my first post so hope I'm doing it right

I'm living in switzerland since September 2014 and working since November until unfortunately next month and I heard about Rav. How it works? I only worked in switzerland 8 months I will be able to claim any benefits?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Benefits claim rav

As far as I remember, you can claim unemployment benefit only after 2 years of your job in Switzerland. I got that information one year back.

Re: Benefits claim rav

Thabks for the replay... but I already read all the website and doesn't talk about how many months I need to work to apply for the benefits, because all the requirements they ask I have them.

Thanks

If you have worked in the EU in the last 24 months then you may have the required minimum of 12 months.

Then it is better to go to the RAV office and ask them.

If you have legally worked in another country before entering Switzerland then your unemployment contributions that were paid in that country can be exported from that country/imported into Switzerland. RAV can give you a form. With that form you make a formal request to the previous country for your unemployment contributions to be released. This can help you accumulate enough time / more money for your unemployment benefit to be paid out here.

Re: Benefits claim rav

You MAY get a German course, but do also expect that RAV will try and keep you busy finding a new job and/or doing other courses (like CV writing).
There are requirements you need to fullfill, but then, your counselor will tell you what to do. Good luck

Re: Benefits claim rav

That sounds good because I will have someone to help me improving the cv. And I'm sending cv's all the time I can, because staying at home looking to the walls was never my style, and faster I found a job faster I will improve my german but having some financial help from the benefits would be perfect we will see hope I will get some help

Re: Benefits claim rav

Not sure if I understand what you mean with help of benefits. Your RAV/ALK payment will be calculated on the average of your salary in the last 12 (?) months. And then 70% of that (80% if you have kids).

Just ask them nicely for a language course, as doing that without their support would mean you are not available to work.

If it is beneficial (higher calculated average) to the unemployed person, they can look at the last 24 months wages no matter where the contributions were paid.

Moreover I believe that if the amount is quite low (quite possible in this case since most wages in Portugal and U.K. will generally be lower than Switzerland), say less than Fr. 4'000.-- per month, it will be 80%, unless rules have changed since I went through the procedure some time ago.

The thing is it can be beneficial for obtaining unemployment benefit by mentioning to RAV that you worked abroad because you attain the required number of months, but the drawback is it can really bring down the average monthly wage overall, particularly if the number of months in Switzerland is low.

Once you tell RAV you have worked abroad though, they will expect you to import your contributions from the country or countries where you worked in the preceding 24 months, counting back from the day you notify them that you are unemployed.

If the country is a neighbouring one it can be a fast process as you can nip across the border and do the paperwork in one day. I wouldn't like to say how long it takes for Portugal, the U.K. or any country to get back to you with the forms filled out.

Re: Benefits claim rav

Mmmm I have the papers when I left England saying how long I worked there (2years) and the amount, and from switzerland I worked 8 months with a salary of 4500 fr.

Tomorrow I will take the papers from England with me to show in rav.

When I talked about benefits, I was talking about helping me out with the money I could receive ( because in this times every penny counts lol) and the opportunity to Study some german.

Unless the process has been put online, digitalized or automated in some way since when I went through it, you might have to work with the U.K. and/or Portugal by post to get them to fill in, sign and/or stamp the form(s)!

The Arbeitslosigkeitskasse will need the form(s) before they can calculate exactly how much you will receive.

They will be able to tell you whether you are entitled to unemployment benefit or not without the forms though, as you can indicate the periods and countries where you worked, but as far as I know without the forms they won't be able to take it any further.

You can work with the Arbeitslosigkeitskasse for the calculation even before you have officially become unemployed, this will speed things up for later when you are unemployed and expect them to pay out.

Understand that unless RAV arrange for you to take a language course you won't be able to study. You're expected to spend all your time looking for a new job, the money isn't to fund further education.
