Homeopath looking for job

Hi all,

my wife is looking for a job in Switzerland. She has done her Bachelors in Homeopathy in India and has worked as Assistant doctor for one and half years in India.

We have been looking for opportunities be it full or part time job, internship or anything else for her in central Switzerland like in canton Lucerne, Bern.

We do not know whether her Bachelors degree is recognized here or not. Neither we know how to search for a job in Switzerland.

I will really appreciate if I get some information about how to start applying.

Thanks and regards in advance!

Write a 500 character job ad. Mix with all characters of the Bible. Put the first portion of 500 characters in newspaper. Get job.

If it doesn't help have a look here:

Unfortunately, I think she has only a one in ten-million chance of finding a job in her field - and then it probably wont be a proper one, but only imaginary.

Re: Homeopath looking for job

Hello Dudhane

First of all, welcome to the English Forum. I'd like to encourage you not to be overwhelmed by the wide range of reactions, of all sorts, to posts on this forum. Just take the best (by which I mean pick out any bits of advice which seem helpful to you and your wife) and leave the rest (including my ideas, if they don't seem to apply to you).

My advice to all new folk in Switzerland is to work very hard to learn the local language, as soon as possible. In the case of yourself and your wife, German (so-called "high" German to read and write and speak) and, in a second round, Swiss-German, at least to understand when the locals speak.
This alone can increase one's chances of finding work.

Apart from the helpful links provided by Prof. Taratonga, your wife could look up in www.directories.ch all the Homeopathy practitioners in your canton and, in fact, anywhere else. She could phone and ask if she could please come to see them, not for a treatment session, but to ask for advice about becoming a homeopath. Better not to explain the whole story of her existing qualifications on the phone, if they will let her come to them. It may be that others, especially if they live further away (like Zurich) so as not to be her competitors, would be able to explain to her how they themselves became registered.

Well, actually in my case Homeopathy helped me many times. I appreciate a good homeopath. If her German is good there is certainly a chance for employment.

First, if you are on an L permit she does not have an automatic right to work here in Switzerland.

"Members of the family of a license holder of short stay (art. 26 OASA) do not have a right to gainful employment. The gainful activity is subject to authorization.
On admission, a request by the employer respecting the pay and conditions of employment customary in the locality and in the branch must be made. In addition, members of the family of a holder of an authorization for short stay (art. 26OASA) must have professional qualifications (personal qualifications, Art. 23 AuG).

The possibility of gainful employment for family members is related, according to art. OASA 26 and 27, the duration of the authorization of the person granted family reunification. If the residence permit of the spouse is not renewed, the members of his family can not claim a right to pursue their gainful employment (art.6, para. 2, OASA)."

Section 4.4.1 (pages 94/95 of the Foreign Nationals Act)

https://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/dam...ngen-aug-f.pdf

So she can look for work, but her employer will need to meet the conditions set out for her profession to get permission from the Swiss authorities to hire her.

Second, it's probably best to check with the following organisation to see if her qualifications need to be recognised first:

State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI
Contact point for the recognition of qualifications
Einsteinstrasse 2
3003 Berne
T +41 58 462 28 26 (Monday-Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.)
F +41 58 464 92 47
kontaktstelle@sbfi.admin.ch

Third, as said, how are her German language skills? The majority of her customers will not speak English so she will need German to be able to communicate.

Most homeopaths are self-employed and have their own practice.

In which case she would have to have a C permit, or ask for permission for self-employment if on a B permit.

Where is the OP? Has he been scared off? If so, it's a shame, because he would be helping people trying to help him by providing more details.

My doctor is Facharzt FMH für Allgemeinmedizin and homeopathy. He is an excellent doctor and I had always the opportunity to choose between homeopathy and conventional medicine treatments.

I hope you and your doctor realise how very dangerous that is?

If you were being given conventional medicine along with homoeopathy then it wouldn't be too bad but to choose one or the other

Rubbish. Am sure the doctor knows what he is doing and the only situation where conventional medicine should definitely be chosen over homeopathy is infection, when any homeopath with experience and diagnostic skills would recommend antibiotics anyway.
