Career path change

Hi All,

I've been working in ZH for last 9 months and now my wife also joined me from abroad. She has just registered in local office and is waiting for her B permit.

I have a question on any job opportunities outside the big corporations. Are there any pages with job offers to some small firms, start-ups, not huge family businesses?

I'm asking because my wife had spent last several years in accounting and she'd like to change her career path for now, to try something new? Has anybody had a similar experience in Switzerland?

We'd appreciate any insight. Thanks.

This is an opinion. Smallish, local companies oftentimes advertise jobs in local and regional newspapers, probably because they are not so inexpensive. Possibly a newspaper like Zürichersee-Zeitung for Altendorf. Some areas have free weekly newspapers and guides which contain job ads.

Many jobs on internet job boards are for unidentified companies using recruiting firms so you don't know who the company is.

The Auslandschweizer-Organisation has a web page with a list of newspapers and job boards in Switzerland. Possibly of use:

Re: Career path change

Which languages does she speak? this will make a big difference to opportunities. It would help too to know what she enjoys or has experience in, apart from accounting- retail, music, children, decorating, food ...
it would help narrow things down. And is she legally allowed to work in Switzerland? I she from EU or outside?

Re: Career path change

Thanks for your responds guys...

@Mullhollander - we'll definitely make sure to read more local sources of information. And thanks for the link, I haven't seen that earlier. That's useful!

@Odile - thanks for the additional questions, I should have written this info already. Yes, she's from EU and is now waiting for her B permit (just registered with authorities last week) so will be allowed to work legally for 5 years. She speaks English and German (not super fluent but definitely in a good communicative level - although will take additional courses to improve). She's actually interested in real estate market and also in arranging house interiors (and she good in it, always acting as subject matter expert for other people/friends arranging their houses in our hometown). So not sure about this job market in Switzerland but at least we'll try.
