Capo, thanks for participating in the forum.

There seems to be a clear message from everyone:
- complete a European accounting designation;
- an MBA program is probably not required at this point.

My decision:
- complete the CMA since I still have a few month before moving;
- complete the CIMA program;
- keep the MBA as a last resource in case two designations, my charm, and experience can't get me a job. Or, if I need a career push at one point.

Now lets just see what happens with the CHF. It's moving up (against the CAD)!
If you plan to apply for a MBA, and I mean a recognized top program, take into account that the admissions will judge you by your achievements through your career. So if you stay unemployed during your job searching, you will need to have a good story to justify it.

Re: CPA (Canada) or CIMA? Moving the Switzerland

Hi Cornelius,

Good question!

When you ask about finding work, you mean here in Switzerland, right?

First of all, you have to consider that any kind of certificate is worth here. Secondly, I guess that the Canadian CPA isn't so known here and it would be very useful just if you work at a local branch or subsidiary of a Canadian company (they require Canadian GAAP maybe?). In all the other cases, I don't believe it'd be worth that
much...

In addition, I think that if you aim at working at international companies an international certificate would work better.

Finally, I share what I would do in your shoes... I'd try to find a significant number of job posts of the job/jobs you want to do and then see if they require/prefer cpa, cima or other professional qualifications (such as aca, acca?). Then you'll know not only what is better but also which is the most requested certificate.

Of course, I am curious to hear the outcome of your survey.

Re: CPA (Canada) or CIMA? Moving the Switzerland

Hi - I'm working in an accounting department of a Swiss bank and have the Swiss CPA. I would say it depends: First of all, it is important that you can demonstrate your experience with the accounting standard relevant to the respective company. For most international companies in Switzerland, this is IFRS or US GAAP. A degree always helps and I would say that the US CPA is quite well accepted.

Re: CPA (Canada) or CIMA? Moving the Switzerland

Hi Marcello,

I have done a job post search. I would say the requirements are:

- 1/3rd Swiss CPA (Swiss GAAP knowledge),
- 1/3rd CPA (most of the time there is no mention of US or other - the CPA program covers IFRS expensively)
- 1/3rd ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.

Thanks,

this is about the 4th time you have asked the same question here, you clearly are not listening to any advice given or waiting for a forum member to make a decision for you. I suggest you re read your previous posts!

Hi Halfasleep,

Have a look at the posting dates of the messages.

CPA (Canada) or CIMA? Moving the Switzerland
- First post date = 17.08.2015
- First reply = 07.10.2015

Are CMA's well recognized in Switzerland?
- First post date = 18.08.2015
- First reply = same day
- Last post = 23.08.2015

Looks to me like one discussion picked up, and the other didnít. Being a polite individual I responded to Marcellosís and Zaniís post even though there had been no activity for a while in both forums.

Cheers,
