Passport or Driver's License

Hi,

If you're an EU national, once you've been made an offer in Switzerland, do employer's request a EU passport or is your diver's license sufficient?

Thanks,

Huh? Why would your employer need either?

Your employer will need to see your work permit at some point. You'll need your passport for your permit application - your driver's licence won't be accepted for that.

To verify your residency. Make sure you're authorized to work in the country if you don't already have a work permit and they need to sponsor you.

If you have EU citizenship, you need to apply for your permit yourself, it is not your employers responsibility. Your employer "should" check that you have been given a permit at some point and that you are therefore working legally.

As already said, you'll need your EU passport (or EU ID card.. but not drivers licence) to apply for your permit, you should also enter the country on it.

If they're doing your visa application, then they'll need your passport details too.

Either way, unless you'll be driving as part of your job, they shouldn't need to see your licence.

Re: Passport or Driver's License

It probably depends on the employer - if it's a bank, they'll ask for your passport, permit, an extract from the criminal records database and an extract from the debtors database.

I can't imagine any employer is going to accept a driving licence for any sort of ID proof.

Link to the required information (in French only):
http://www.travailler-en-suisse.ch/d...es-suisse.html
http://www.travailler-en-suisse.ch/p...il-suisse.html

The link indicates that you need an employment contract before handing in your file and the majority of the time the employer would take care of the formalities.

Re: Passport or Driver's License

Sign your contract, come, work.

Go to the office to register within a couple of weeks and take your passport, your work contract and some money with you.

It's that simple
