Are there any online courses for CELTA? If there are not, where can I sign up in Zurich?
Thanks!

I don't think online courses are worth much TBH. How can you be assessed for your classroom practice? I suggest that you Google it to find out where you can take the course. It is bloody difficult though. The course, not using google

When I was searching for CELTA courses myself I found a school in Zurich called Flying Teachers: http://www.flyingteachers.ch/index.p...pper&Itemid=69
I'm sure there are one or two more schools out there, too. I ended up taking the CELTA in San Diego, instead, and let me tell you...it's really, really intense. It will definitely get you ready for teaching, though, if you've never done it before. (And if you have done it before, the program won't be quite so difficult.)
Good Luck!

If you want to get a job as an English teacher for adults in Switzerland, it is pretty much a requirement to have this certification. If you tell me your situation, I can give you a better answer.

Good Luck! | | | | | I wish I could take it in California too, but I am not there anymore. I have been a teacher for a while now and I am certified to teach in California and have completed all coursework for Masters in Education ( still need to write off my fieldwork credit), but apparently it doesn't matter here.
What was difficult about that course? Is it for people who already teachers or for those who are planning to become teachers?

Elizabeth | | | | | If you have taught before, the CELTA is a piece of cake. The CELTA is really like a kind of teaching bootcamp. The hardest thing for you may be the amount of work, not the actual completion of it. I had never taught before, like most of the trainees who took the course with me. Those who had taught before invariably did really, really well.
I think the only reason that a CELTA may be important for you, considering your already hefty qualifications, is that the CELTA is specifically geared towards a) teaching adults, and b) teaching within the Cambridge University language system, which seems to be highly valued here in Europe.

Do you have any suggestions for specific schools that offer this course? how long does it take to complete?
thanks

I took my CELTA course at International House in London. It was a four-week course that included accommodation. It is indeed like boot camp but I found it exhilirating to be in the middle of London taking a course with mostly English locals. My teachers (except for one) were wonderful and I looked forward to attending class every day.
I have a friend who took the CELTA course offered at the Volksschule in Zürich. She enjoyed the course but found it a struggle to teach during the day and take the courses in the evening. There are at least four essays one must write as well.
For a four-week course in Bern or evening courses in Basel, see: http://www.up-vhs.ch/index.php?id=85
and for other CELTA courses throughout Switzerland, see: http://www.eslbase.com/courses/switzerland/ |
