Specific text and timing of letter for leaving job after Mat leave

I am looking for some advice about what and when to write a letter for quitting my job after maternity leave. It is a tiny company of just a few people so no HR to ask. I just need to hand in my resignation letter (and in English is fine) and be legally correct.

The situation - the company knows my intentions, we've talked, all is good, I just need to write the letter correctly. My due date is early November, I will not return to work after maternity leave. Since I won't know until I am out of the hospital exactly when my maternity leave ends I don't know what date to put in the letter.

So I ask if anyone on EF has a short example letter of something they might have written (or if they know what should be written) and when they submitted it (months before? right after they got out of the hospital?). I just don't want to screw something up legally.

Thanks!

Swiss Authorities Online (ch.ch) has a resignation letter template and also discusses resignation at this link. If you choose to use another one :

"The written notice must:
  • Contain correct information about the employee and the employer (name, address). Make sure the written notice reaches your employer’s personnel department or your line manager.
  • Specify the employment contract that you are terminating (Employment contract of …)
  • Indicate the termination date (usually for the end of the month - check the period of notice).
  • Be signed and dated.
You are not required to state why you are choosing to leave.

For templates in German, google on "Kündigungsschreiben Arbeitnehmer Muster".

The termination date is the sticking point - I know other people have said they terminated their employment right after maternity leave and didn't come back to work, but what did they write? It's also usually not at the exact end of the month.

Re: Specific text and timing of letter for leaving job after Mat leave

If you do not plan to return to work following birth, this website recommends that the notice letter be sent in during the 14 weeks of motherhood leave after birth. This assumes that the notice period is three months or less:

Re: Specific text and timing of letter for leaving job after Mat leave

Thanks, this is exactly the info I was looking for regarding timing.

For people like me who need the google translate version:

"Termination after birth

Experts therefore recommend that you if possible to wait with a notice to the birth of your child. Because of maternity leave so 14 weeks old so takes a little more than three months, you have just before or after birth still plenty of time to terminate your employment if you have a normal notice period of three months or less.
Did you, however, a notice of over three months, it is advisable to seek early enough the conversation with the supervisor. In this case you will notice before the birth of your child and therefore must take the risk that, after an - albeit very rare -. Have also lost your job stillborn "
