Docking of wages for administrative mistakes

Hello all,

Just wondering about the legality of a company imposing fines for late paperwork by employees. A new clause has been written into the contracts of teachers at a language school, stating that a certain amount will be docked from their salary payment if certain procedures are not completed in the requested time frame.

I don't know where to look to see if this is legal, so any advice on where to find info (vaud) that would clarify this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Helen

I don't recall where I saw it but understand this is legal as long as it is written into the employment contract.

If it isn't in your contract you could dispute it but consider what the effects of that may be. If the timescales/workloads are unreasonable, it would be much better to negotiate that in advance. How effective that will be would depend on whether most other teachers face the same issues

If those procedures and paperwork are part of the job, then yes, I'm sure you can get your pay docked if you don't do them.

Having been on the other end of this 'aren't those figures ready yet' - when I needed them to get on with my job, I only wish I had thought to have this wage docking written into the contracts of the tardy ones.
