Very true, you'll even decrease your risk of a heart attack (down 32%) and suicide (down 18%).
Actually Canton Basel Stadt has the highest deaths per capita in Switzerland (source Swisscellany) and the highest health insurance rates. I blame the Basel Landers for coming here to die.

There is neglible difference between Zurich and Basel in terms of making up statistics. (0.4%)
It is true I could even avoid risky surgical solutions

Typing ability seems to correlate to penis size.

Oh, and when I say I've noticed, I was speaking only personally. I'm not some sort of weird urinal stalker.

Not sure about that.
That would be only on the assumption that every clause stated in the contract has also been explained verbally. I don't think this is often the case in cases like this.
Just find something you wouldn't like to agree on that hasn't been mentioned before and make that a big issue
You're mixing things up - that would be verbal acceptance of a written contract, not a verbal contract.

The written contract would have to be provided in full, not just described. And then a verbal (/ email) acceptance of it would be valid - you can't just say "sorry I missed that bit" later.

The latter case is what happened here, all the documetation was sent and agreed to, so the contract is binding.

However, as loads of people have said, just give notice and legally it's fine. Reputation wise, how much of an issue it is depends on mainly on whether annoying that employer is a problem or not (there's always another agency...)

I'm not saying if the location is or isn't Basel, just to avoid any possible Canton wars

Just to point out I told the agency the date I could start before I received the contract - they wanted this so it could be included in the contract. They then sent all the paperwork including the contract, after which I told them I'd get back to them this week.

Sorry, I misread the post - in which case the written contract is not binding, only whatever you agreed on the phone. I'm pretty sure the company wouldn't accept that either!

Re: Decided not to take a contract role after initially agreeing by email

So do I need to give them written notice, like a registered letter that was mentioned earlier? I would have thought notice only applies once the contract has started but I could be completely wrong about that.

I'd phone the agency out of courtesy, and confirm to them by email.

If you only have a verbal agreement and implicit response by email so far, a registered letter seems a bit unnecessary.

It's only for 3 months!

I've done the 2 hour per way|4 hours a day commute and while it's a bitch, it's doable.
