Letter of Recommendation

Dear Forum Members,
I would like to ask for your input on whether i should attach my letters of recommendation directly onto the cv when applying online for a job in Switzerland.

I searched the forum and read some threads but this was not explicitly noted.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort.

Regards

Re: *** Letter of Recommendation ***

Simple: Most MNCs will think you are a backward hillbilly in case you attache them. Most local companies will think you are unprofessional in case you don't.

One of the second group wrote me an automated email that my application only consisted of a cover letter and a resume... and that they can only consider my application if I hand in a full set of "Zeugnisse" for every step mentioned in my CV.

A company who does so before the first interview is a red flag for me. I don't plan to work in the 1970s.

Re: *** Letter of Recommendation ***

This is from jobs.ch:

Employment references

"It is therefore important that you enclose all employment references."

Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates

"Only include with your application those diplomas and certificates which are relevant to your new job – The certificate for your highest level of education should however always be included."

Now I'm confused?!?!

Re: *** Letter of Recommendation ***

As the OP has a location of Hawaii companies that will want one will probably put off by a non swiss format reference especially if in English. But then the Hawaii location will be a bigger issue if non EU.

What would help is what type of jobs you are applying to

The funny thing about this thread is that most people working here probably prefer working in Hawaii.

Re: *** Letter of Recommendation ***

In my experience it is a big fat "Yes".

Renown recruiting agencies usually prepare candidates dossier and more documents always help and good practice i.e.: CV/Resume (Lebenslauf), certificates, letters of recommendations/reference letters (Zeugnisse), Motivational/Cover Letters (Begleitbrief), qualifications, transcripts, academic records and etc ... All in PDF formats.

Lately, I was even asked for all reference letters from my previous employers (like 15 years old) stated as per curriculum vitae submitted. Despite my highest degree being Ph.D., they meticulously asked me for full academic record from my M.Sc. studies.

Therefore more documentation helping your case you have got on a file then better are your chances of being screened for positions with the potential recruiter. They love certificates here in CH and it's all about being certified to fit for a job.

Re: *** Letter of Recommendation ***

If a CV makes it to my desk without all the Swiss documentation (letters of reference, transcripts, motivation letter, etc) I bin it, most of the time. Either the applicant hasn't learned the local culture and habits, or he / she has something to hide.

That said, HR is under instruction to always go back to the candidate if the package is not complete these days. I can't be bothered with it...

Isn't a certificate enough, especially if the applicant held many jobs after graduation ?
