Had a look through other threads but don't see anything quite relevant; does anyone know about this strange Swiss law where, if you are on holiday leave and are sick, you can "convert" the holiday day to a sick day as long as you have a doctor's note?

If I recall, in the UK, if you are sick on your hols it's tough luck - or maybe I always had heartless employers .

Tried to Google.ch but obviously wasn't using the correct combo of German words and phrases, also a couple of the links on earlier threads are no longer working.

I know that in my work, you can convert holiday day where you were sick to a sick day upon presentation of the necessary documentation. Didn't know it was law, just something I read in our staff handbook.

have had recourse to this twice in the last five years. Again company handbook stuff, but I imagine it is a given.

The norm is, during your vacation period - if you fall ill or are injured to the point that you could not work anyway. Then you required to visit a doctor and get your "sick slip" to verify your illness or injury.

If your vacation was last week, and you are better now... then it is too late.

This one has be over abused in my work place by many until our boss finally put his foot down and (within his rights) said anyone sick during vacation time has to have his doctor's excuse (professionally) translated into German. Also not all excuses will be excepted, for example if you're bed ridden then your vacation time can be taken again at a later date but if you broke your arm that wouldn't stop you from enjoying your vacation time so you couldn't convert the vacation time to sick leave.
