Question for anybody with experience in the Swiss software industry

I'm thinking about making the move from the states to Zurich which would entail breaking into the software industry here, specifically I'd be looking at the financial sector.

I've got an advanced degree and several years writing code in the telecom industry so I'm just wondering how hard it would be to make the transition. Beyond the different technical demands, will any employer even consider a resume without existing financial industry experience?

Additionally, what is the predominant language for the swiss financial industry? C++ or java?

Any and all input is much appreciated!

Cheers,

Daniel

Why don't you browse UBS and CS websites and search for IT jobs...should give you a fair idea as to what language they use.

I presume that you have an American passport (i.e. non EU/non Swiss) which might present difficulties in terms of getting a job - but it is certainly not impossible. Search for other posts in the forum for further info on non EU permits. Just bear this in mind when looking for jobs here in Switzerland.

Good luck with you job search and remember the forum is always here should you have any further questions.

I have Swiss citizenship so I'm fortunate in that regard and my issues will 'only' be technical/cultural.

I'll start looking at the UBS & CS sites though, I've only been looking at monster.ch previously and didn't think of going straight to the horse's mouth.

If you are looking for English speaking jobs then you will probably find more on http://www.jobserve.com/ than on Monster.

I have seen many job ads wanting both C++ and java. Swiss Re used C++ in London when I was there a few years back.
