Leaving switzerland temporarily

Hi,

I am living and working in the canton of bern on L permit. I want to know if its legally possible to live outside of switzerland for about six months. I want to stay with my parents in India, but my husband will stay in Bern and work. We are fine to pay the health insurance during my absence.

It could be a work from home option if my employer agree or an unpaid leave.

Thanks in advance!
gram

Short answer is no. Your L permit will expire after 3 months if you're out of the country that long. Your husband would have to apply for a new permit for you.

Re: Leaving switzerland temporarily

Thanks Medea!

What if the permit type is 'B'. My permit renewal will happen in the year beginning, I have the 'L' permit for the second time now. So hopefully expecting 'B' by next year.

And to be noted that I am the main permit holder in the household if that changes anything.

cheers,
Gow

Re: Leaving switzerland temporarily

B and C permits expire after 6 months so you might just about make it. Assuming you do manage to get a B of course.
