Question about Redundancy & Benefit & Visa

Dear all,

I have a question regarding how to act when your contract was terminated earlier than you thought.

I recently face a problem at work. My contract was terminated 4 months earlier than the original contract said. According to the contract and the company's terms and conditions, the employment relationship shall terminate when either parties gives one months notice. My contract will be terminated by the end of this year, so the company did not break any law. When I was told my job will be gone, I was also told that they are going to cancel my tenancy agreement. Since the Visa is bound to the company, I have to leave the country after I leave the company. That's what they said. The company had prepared the letter to the landlord about cancelation of the flat for us. Then I was asked to sign in it. Is it trure that once your employee relationship terminates, the visa you are given also loses its validity? Can the company have a right to cancel/control my tenancy agreement, as well? I spoke to my country's embassy. They told me that each cant has a different policy to handle the visa issue. I am livinig in Basel, Switzerland. Do you know anything about it?

Also anybody knows anything about a job seeker allowance and a compensation pack upon your redundancy in Switzerland? I am a trainee but a full-time worker. Am I entitle to any benefit here? Basically, I was given nothing by the company. Is it always the case?

I am in a desparate situation. If anybody can help me about the above things, I'll be pleased.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about Redundancy & Benefit & Visa

Hi,

It would help if you gave some more information about your nationality - are you EU or non-EU?

Also, try using the forum search function as these topics come come quite frequently.

Hope this helps.

Rgds,
Nick

If you look at OP's profile you will find he/she is Japanese so unless you have been with your company over a year it does not look good. Hope I'm wrong. Best of luck anyway.

Re: Question about Redundancy & Benefit & Visa

Thanks for the messages. Yes, I'm from Japan and working here for 8 months so far. Initially my contract was the one year contract. Since the company I am working for does not have a branch in Japan, I am not entitle to a job seeker benefit back in Japan. One of things I want to know about is if someone from Switzerland or EU works as a fulltime trainee for 8 months, wheather this perosn is entitle to a job seeker benefit or not. Do you know anything about it?

12 months contribution to unemployment insurance is the prerequisite for unemployment benefits.
