im about to sign a contract with another company but my notice period with my current employer is causing a problem.

The potential employer wants me to start from 1st May the latest, but my notice period with my current company is 2 months. Problem is I haven't talked about resignation with my manager since the new employer is applying working permit for me but it will takes some weeks to know the answer . As a non-EU i dont want to take any risk on my working permit. So I was wondering is my current notice period negoitable? say, to shorten it to 1 month or even shorter?
Has anybody been in such kind of situation? How did you guys deal with it? any suggestion will be welcome!

Sorry, but I think only your employer can tell you whether it is negotiable! Why won't your new one wait? Is a company that puts you in such a position one you want to work for?

that varies from person to person, maybe your boss do it, maybe another one...doesn't negotiate. tts made a good point. why don't you ask your new employer just to wait 30 days? if they are interested in you, they will wait.
