sick pay?

i am a little confused about the sick pay here...

my understanding is that you recieve 100% of your pay for a period determined by the length of your employment (3weeks for 1st year) and then any longer than that you would drop to 80%. a swiss friend has told me this is how it is stated in their law, however my employer only paid me 80% for sick time (as per my contract) but she says this should not be the case, despite what the contract says...

does anyone know if this is true? or where i can find out for certain?

i also had 4 days off following an accident recently, and they did not pay me for those days at the end of the month saying they had to wait for the money to come from the insurance company... can they do this?

Re: sick pay?

Sounds a bit off. I was sick in january with the flu, my company didn't even bat a eyelid and paid me my full amount without fuss.

Are you a permanent employee or a contractor? (I don't know if that makes a difference here or not)

Re: sick pay?

thanks for your reply

i am a permanent employee who has always had a salary untill now. i am also in my last month of employment with this place.

i re-read my contract (for the 100th time!) and it actually says sick pay will be paid at a minimum of 80%

there are 2 other forigners in the same job as me, we get the feeling we might be getting duped on the presumption we wont know swiss law... and are willing to challenge it if we find out for sure we are!!

anyone know where to get (free!!) advice in canton bern?

Re: sick pay?

Hi - Did you get any further information on this, as I'm in the same boat - I was off for a week and was only paid 80%, being told the 80% kicked in as soon as you got a doctor's note - is this right?
