I have a general "Labor Law" question and any help/input/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My wife is a swiss born citizen and we're planning to move to Switzerland next spring (March - April of 2010). With that said, the company I currently work for has given me the option of working remotely from Switzerland. I'm willing to take them up on this offer, simply because it's an excellent transitional aid.

My questions are: Will I have to apply for a work permit (as I am a US Citizen)? Will I have to pay income taxes to the canton I reside in or will I just continue to pay taxes in the US? Should I notify any department/official of this?

Since your wife is a Swiss citizen, it is not a problem for you to obtain a residence/work permit. I'm not sure if you'll need a work permit or not, you'll need to double check once you apply for the permit - but it is a rubber stamp as the spouse of a citizen.

You would file a tax return in Switzerland jointly with your wife. You must declare your US income in the Swiss tax return. You are also liable for Swiss social-security contributions.
