Accountant Courses (IFRS) & Jobs?

Hi all,

Been in Zurich for a few months now.

I'm an ACCA qualified accountant from the UK, and haven't been able to secure a job yet. I've been through the regular avenues eg tobjobs.ch, recruiters, other websites etc. But no joy yet. Any ideas on how I can get a job, even if it's temporary?

Secondly, I'm looking for an IFRS course to do here, what training provider would folks recommend? eg in the UK I'd go for Mercia/SWAT

Thanks for the help

Learn German.

A good way to get a foot in the door is to offer to do a Praktikum. That way you would learn to speak German and would get familiar with Swiss accounting. If you manage to get a Praktikum of 6 months and manage to learn basic German it should be possible for you to find a job in your field.

Or offer to do accounting for a Verein, Start-up or similar.

Tilia has a point. In your to get along in the German speaking part of Switzerland you must learn German. You can take a German course at the migros and/or learn online. Check this Online German Course for example.

Re: Accountant Courses (IFRS) & Jobs?

Just in case anyone else looks for this, the ACCA do a couple of IFRS courses, one of which can be done online.

Also, managed to get a decent job, I had already done a 3 month intensive German course, turns out they only require English in my new employment as it's an international co

Hi Roddy, I got it through a recruitment agency, but to be honest I think it may be a case of being in the right place at the right time, as for the first 4 months I had no serious interviews, and then 3 within 6 weeks.

If this one hadn't worked out, my next port of call was going to be contacting global co's directly. If I hear of anything (RC's have a habit of calling you even after you have a job) I'll PM you.

Good Luck!
