Hi all,

Currently I'm working for a company and to addition to that I want to start an own company. Today I got another L permit again (while I have a permanent contract ), so this might give some complications.

Does anybody has some ideas whether this is possible with an L permit, or should I try hard to get a B, or should I wait a while for a C permit?

I pretty sure that with an L permit you are not allowed to start your own company.

Also if you start your own company or take a second job you must also advise your current employers otherwise you could have some problems. Basically as I understand it you need their permission/acceptance that you can work a second job and that it wont interfere with your current job.

Indeed, I got a royal rap on the fingers for undertaking some consultancy work, even though it was in my own time. An employment contract is an employment contract & I would advise you to read it carefully.

I asked my employer and he didn't like it, but because it was non-competing business he couldn't do anything else then accept he said.

I am Dutch (EU) and here now for a year. I really hate it that I got an L permit again, but maybe I can change it to a B.
But does somebody has a clue whether it is possible to have an 'Einzelfirma' or Gmbh with a Kanton Zurch B permit, which might be attached to the current job I have and hopefully will keep..?

being Dutch means you have no permit issues, effectively.

Dries, I suggest you find a Treuhandler (bookeeper / accountant) & go & have a chat with him regards what opportunities are open to you. I did this last year. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in Zurich ...

Most guys will give you a 30-45 minute slot for free. Good luck.

I am sort of in the same boat.
When I come out to Lausanne was looking to get a job, B permit. Have just been approached by someone with a proposal to set up a business, which will take a while to get established and therfore no salary initially.

Can anyone tell if with B permit and an employer if I could do this. I think we might have to set up a SARL.

My other thought was to get the permit B as a director of the business and then look for a job. Can I do that? I`m from the UK
Any thoughts advice?

The rules for starting a Gmbh limited company are changing in the second part of 2007. They make it possible for one person to start the company instead of two, and numbered shares to be allocated instead of fixed allocation. The most significant change for small startups, is that the share capital of 20000chf must now be fully paid up at incorporation. It used to be possible to pay just half initially.

Greetings All

I started my own GmBH last year (with a C permit). I would definitely advise letting a treuhandler do the heavy lifting (especially later when it comes time to file the tax return). Mine is in Zürich and speaks excellent English. I would be happy to forward his details off list if anyone is interested.
