DELL Geneva

Hello,

I am currently in the latter part of the application process.

Originally as a Technical Sales Rep, it is quite possible that I will go into the System Engineer Role after about 6 months.

The reason for this is probably because I work as an official System Engineer for Microsoft for Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

My technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills are really good. I have been doing this job now for two years, working in other IT positions before.

It seems DELL is attracted to this possibility because they said they need a System Engineer next year so I would go in the meantime for the TechSales Rep Role.

I originally mentioned 90,000CHF for the TechSales Rep position. I now know that in the beginning i get about 90% from that amount and later it will change to a lower value and I have to reach my targets, which is normal I guess.

Yet 90% from 90,000CHF is 81,000CHF, and in Geneva not that much if I take a look at the cost of living.

In the interview the amount for the System Engineer Role has been mentioned by DELL with "something between 90 and 120k CHF", so it is negotiable.

I know that I would go and visit clients and overtime will be occuring quite often, so I just want to make a clever decision and give good reasons in a face-to-face interview.

I have altogether about 3 years experience in IT Administration / Support, and two years as System Engineer. 5 yearsa ago I have finished a private Business Academy in Germany with something like Business Administration, so nothing really IT related.

What should I aim for in the first 6 months as TechSales Rep and how to clever negotiate for the System Engineer position? As I will be doing Field work, I guess that a company car would be included?

If you need more information I will gladly supply.

Edit: I have the German citizenship.

Regards

ground

Re: DELL Geneva

first of all youll do in any case with 90.000chf, even in Geneva.
second though you know its limited with 120k with the techie role, dont go for that! settle at 110-115k. yep your still scratching the limit but 5k lower doesnt look that greedy. i believe youll end with 110k.
another point could be that you say: ok, lets agree to that ill work 3/6month n we negotiate again after that period. so you could start off with 100k and end up with 120k (or any higher number) id say make up a couple of suggestions for the comp. and of course back it all up WHY youre worth it! but thats pretty much standard.

the sales-rep thingy...dunno. id say get your basic salary as high as much you can and top that up with the cash they pay you for reaching your goals, the bonus. id say 100k-110k plus 10% bonus as i believe theyll fix this position with 120.k as well. but i can only guess... im no sales rep but ich würd so viele schäfchen wie möglich ins trockene bringen wollen= if you fail your bonus: ok. still a good money slotted.

Re: DELL Geneva

Thank you very much flow!

I think I will try that and as far as I know my skillset is really matching the requirements, so I guess the chance is high.

Does a Relocation package generally affect the salary?

Since Dell is located directly at the airport, is it recommended to try to find something nearby (and pay probably quite a lot) or for example find an appartement in France and travel every day?

Re: DELL Geneva

relocation should not affect the money. some try to get this in to lower the cash, but i wouldnt agree to that unless it is hop oder top: get the job or dont if you insist on the relocation being paid.

Re: DELL Geneva

I got the job! I am so happy, the salary is 6 figures.

There seems to be a lot of work and future opportunities, some new positions opening next year.

I am really motivated and I will start in a few weeks. Finally I can leave my current job which has burned me out lately.

Re: DELL Geneva

Hi Ground,

it has now been a while since you created this post and I was wondering whether you can share your experience with me?

- How did your relocation go for you? Have you been able to find a moderately priced flat? If so, what areas would you recommend?

- I have read an article that Switzerland or France are now checking for people that live in France, since they do not pay any taxes there. Is this a real issue now and will there still be a possibility to rent a flat in France and not to pay too high taxes?

- I assume you are working for Dell. What are the current salary range for Inside Sales Account Managers?

Thank you for your support in advance.
