adequate salary for system enginner?

I understand this has been discussed and re-discussed but each offer is different and I'm gonna ask you about this once again guys

I currently live in London with a 2300£ net per month job.
I'm in talks for a position as Documentum Systems engineer within a big IT consultancy firm.
I should start with a 1 year it project for a customer in Lausanne,
I have 2 years experience as a Java developer and 2 as Documentum technical support engineer.
I've been doing researchs on salaries, taxation and cost of living over the web,
the 1B$ quesition I'm asking is what salary should I ask to be happy and not finding out that I'm underpaid?

100-120K CHF/pa or more?

What would be the net income on a 120k chf in Lausanne after all the mandatory taxes?

Should I expect the company to pay medical insurance for me?

Thanks in advance

Re: adequate salary for system enginner?

Unfortunately money does not grow on tree's any longer here in CH.
With only two years experience, you will be lucky if they offer you 80K pa.

Good luck

100-120K CHF/pa or more?
- Lucky if you get 100k

What would be the net income on a 120k chf in Lausanne after all the mandatory taxes?
- Multiply more or less by 0.8 to have a rough idea, as it depends on a lot of factors.

Should I expect the company to pay medical insurance for me?
- Not really standard. Unless you have a special agreement. But this is not usually so. The normal case is that you have to choose you insurance company and pay.

Regards,

Re: adequate salary for system enginner?

I hope gurus out here can give me a quick idea for salary at Zurich, I am 28 years old have 6 years of total IT experience including 4 years supporting Documentum. How much should I accept at Zurich?

120 K? 100k? I was reading another thread where a freshers was expected to get 80 K.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks a ton

I got offered 80k in vaud...
and I have 3 years experience and msc + honors degree...

It looks some companies have "strict level of salaries" and you enter to the low one, you will get relatively low...

I attempted to negotiate but it was a failure

On the other hand on that company they offer salary reviews every years!

I suppose Zurich salaries are a bit higher??? but don't expect miracles with the current context, maybe it's better to get low salary and a job, and then to move on!

Not sure exactly for Lausanne, but the net monthly (after Quellensteuer and mandatory deductions) should be approx. 7k and then at the end of the year you might have an additional charge for direkt Bundesteuer.

That's way higher than your GBP2300 a month and the cost of living will probably be lower in Lausanne than London . . .

Regards,
Try to get this from your company.

If not and if you are under 25, you can still pay a reduced amount as you are a 'young adult'.

Re: adequate salary for system enginner?

120k's not easy in the Lausanne area... The salaries are lower than in Geneva after all. Maybe with +8 years of experience and the right type of company.

Some consulting agencies do offer great salaries if you strike gold.

Hi!
I have read about it but does not it only concerns Americans going to Switzerland?

I think it's only for people outside EU...

If you have any sources showing it also concerns EU, I will appreciate!

I am not sure about EU citizens.
They normally check this when they issue L or B permit. So, it must apply for EU citizens also as i think they are also considered foreign workers

If you count surfing the net, chatting with friends and posting on EF Forum as work then, Im overworked too

On a serious note, do you think its a good idea to compare your salary in your home country (UK) with what you get in CH or just compare the local CH market?

That MP survey, was it for expat salaries or local CH?
