Amount of Holidays in CH

Dear EFers,

I tried the search option and did not find anything about this. Does anyone know how many holidays does one get in CH? Does it depend on the company or is it regulated by the government?

Thanks

Angela

Re: Amount of Holidays in CH

Hi Angela,

Yes, it does depend on the company. However, 21 days is the norm if you're working 100%. (That's working days, so basically you can take a month of vacation). This number tends to rise if you stay with one company for 3-5 years.

Greets,
Femme T

Re: Amount of Holidays in CH

It is often related to age. Upto 40 years, you get 25 days, 40-55 27 days, and >50 30 days, as far as I remember.

Re: Amount of Holidays in CH

There is the law and there are norms. Law is generally 4 weeks (more if you are young or old). Norm is 4-5 weeks depending on industry and type of work.

Thank you guys!
My husband has just been offered a job and he has to work 42 hours a week (not sure this is standard) and they give him 20 days of holidays, I almost fainted, he has not signed yet. Do no tknow if this is normal...will search working hours though, silly me did not do it

the 42 hrs week is common in Zurich (hubby has the same)

the 20 days is ok... typically company then increase that number with seniority

Cheers,
K

Worked 42 hours in Geneva. Got 21 days paid holiday and 3 'sick' days.

You young folks, don't know the meaning of hard work -- in my day we'd work a 170 hour week, then volunteer another 40 hours just to make sure the job was done. And holidays! Hah! Who needs holidays? An hour at Christmas to worship and provide thanks to Our Lord for our wonderful lives, that's all we ever needed ...

Sounds pretty normal to me.

And to balance my 13 weeks' holiday, I do tend to work somewhere between 50 and 55 hours a week.

Not that that's particularly unusual, of course. It's just that nobody ever believes me...

You can use the extra week to say take care of your visiting in-laws

the 30 hours a week you spend on here doesn't count towards work time.

If DB's hours don't count then probably mine don't either

Seems to me that the legal minimum in Swiss law is 4 weeks.
So 20 working days = 4 weeks

it's the standard
