Re: Getting married - should I get extra-holidays?

I work at EPFL and I was entitled to 6 additional days holiday for my marriage. Ask your human resources people.

Unfortunately, the Swiss statute they reference doesn't say anything of the sort. Maybe the law has changed?
The law has not changed, however, the relevant article contains a general reference and does not list specific events; weddings are nevertheless included in this general reference (1-3 days off, usually 2-3). Employee-friendly employers often grant a week and more of in case of a wedding.

What is the "general reference"? Not trying to be difficult here, but I can't find it in the article.

I can see where it says that employers have to give time off for "ausserschulische Jugendarbeit" (extracurricular youth work), maternity leave, and for you to look for another job - but nothing in there about major life events.

Or have I missed it?

Ah, I see... nochmal wieder von 'dem Wemwölfen' angefallen! I had seen that, but read it as "in addition to the customary free hours/days."

I predict a riot of bigamous Auslander weddings in Switzerland this year ...

Birth of a child - 1 working day

Death of spouse or partner, child or parent - 3 working days

Death of grandparent, parent-in-law, son-in-law or daughter-in-law, sibling or parent of spouse provided they lived in the same household as the employee - up to 3 working days
otherwise - 1 working day
For long traveling - up to 2 working days

School placement of own children by single parents with parential custody - 1/2 day per year and child

To care for sick or injured persons, provided care cannot be organized otherwise: for family member or spouse - up to 3 working days
- for close family members in the same household - up to 2 working days

Establishing or moving one's household provided there is no change of employer-1 working day

I still can't see the connection with the wedding, and neither could my Swiss colleague...

What's the problem with replying to an old thread? What did you want to achieve with your comment?
