Quick one - we have been offered a salary in Basel - which will be paid intl schooling for our son of 14, 25,000 swiss francs per annum for housing, company car and petrol paid, 3 flights home per year and 125,000 basic salary - there are 3 of us. Would it be realistic to assume that we could do a little travelling and still save as we do now on this package? Please help. Thanks so much.

it falls a little short of the Fr 3 million someone else has been offered, but I'd say certainly. Being in Switzerland, there are all the surrounding countries you can travel to easily also.

I heard one needs to earn above 250 000chf per year to live in Basel, otherwise your life will be horrible, hard, and painful.
It is said that some people earning less have to do their own household tasks can you imagine???

I am very interested in what you decided to do about this! - I have been offered a job in Switzerland (not Basel) for 125k, plus intl school fees, but no housing or car allowance. Or flights home. There will be three of us, and I too was wondering if it was enough...
We will have to go back to the Uk quite often as my husband can't relocate so I would be bringing my mother.. Is it worth giving it a go?(Now there's another topic for debate!)
Up until now, I'd always dreamt of living in Switzerland but now it all seems quite difficult and people here in London are trying to talk me out of it saying it's an expensive, dull place where you can't flush your toilet at night!!

Mountains and lakes are nice but you can't talk to them, well at least you shouldn't. It's not all it's cracked up to be. I would just vist any friends that already live in Switzerland, and visit them. A few long weekends a year are nice, but you will go insane if you lived here.

Yes, ...but also depends on your living standard.
avg income here (re.family) will be 55-70K, approx.
