| | | I have benn housewife for 3 years, how can I find job again?
hello, all!
Since i have two kids, i have been stayed home for 3 years without work. I don't know if there're other ladies ,who also like this..
i felt now so empty, and want to have a job ASAP.because my kids everyday go to Daycare.
Any tips are welcome. I don't know how to stimulate my heart to apply for a job or search all those jobs through internet. I strongly felt there're big distance between me and all those job offers...i am dare to do many things.
By the way, before three years ago i had worked as Outsoucing Manager and Assistant General Manager in a IT company and have Master degree ( International Retailing Management).
I really would like to hear some experienced commens!
Thank you very much!

Hi Liv,
I sure know how you feel (kinda). I recently moved to Switzerland giving up my teaching in the Frankfurt area last month and just sitting around many hours of the day wishing I could work again... even if it were for just a few hours a day (BTW, I am 9 months pregnant ) I used to also work in the IT industry but find teaching English very flexible and rewarding. I'm not too sure how you would feel about teaching kids, but there is a nice language school for east switzerland: http://www.easyenglishclub.ch/
Or you can also just look up "sprachschule" and the city you are living in... Migrosschule, yellowpages, google and what not. Most places are almost always looking for people to teach English If you have any questions... feel free to message me.

Thank you very much! | | | | | Three years gap in employment is a long time but in your case, a lot of hiring managers will understand. Staying home to look after your small kids justifies your not working for that long.
Job market is not at it's best but do not give up. Send as many applications as possible. Good luck.

How can you find a job again?
Simple - apply for them.
I don't mean to be rude, but don't make it out to be the hurdle it is. Sure, it might take a couple of interviews to get back into the swing of it, but look at the positives: you've learned and honned valuable time management and prioritisation skills. You've had to juggle demands at all times of the day, with little or no rest. Whatever you go back to, you'll be using those skills obtained while at home.
Getting a job should be a doddle - you just need to put the right spin on it and not de-value yourself.
Good luck.

Many Swiss employers like it; it shows you care about something and do it properly instead of trying to balance a career with a new born, doing neither particularly well. Once the child is at an age to go to a play group or whatever, you return to work.
It shows you have your priorities right, it shows you do things properly and you devote yourself to the task in hand.
As an employer, i like this approach.

Hey!
have faith in you and your skills!
In your line (managers, whatever), it's not like IT were 2 years can be a serious gap already.
You've aquired more experience, etc... growing up kids, anyway, so it's not "dead time" for your career.
And employers will be happy to hire you as you're already had kids and probably won't have anymore (=wont take annual leave )
I'm sure you're really "employable".

It is always a good idea to see a vocational adviser with a good reputation. You will get the latest trend on the job market and which further education would open more options if you can not get a similar job you had bevore.

I also stopped teaching for three years. I changed country, learnt the language, had to wait some times for my degrees to be recognized and then some time to find the right job and some months to wait until the next august.... three years were already over.
As a man, this is tricky to have in your CV. The employers asked very specific questions about this time and my motivations. Smile came back on their face by giving specific, truthfull and clear answers to them all. I made it a strength by integrating the qualities I had to show in those three years to make it a positive and valuable experience into the profile demanded for my profession. It almost looked like a well planed strategy. Employers reacted very positively. I had some choice when coming back to work.
Lesson I've learnt? One has to justify this kind of things very extensively, but one can be convincing. I hope you can show professional qualities through your experience in those three years off. That seems to be the key. That's how I understood it.

Hi, Aki,
Thanks!Three years gap in employment is a long time for all the people as i have seen..

in the same way as anyone who hasn't been a housewife for the last 3 years. in fact, you might have an advantage in being able to explain your 'unemployment'.

take care. | | | | | Dear tititita:
really appreciating for your suggestions, it reminds me that i had learned Retail Management during Bachelor and Master studying..actually work in Retail industry was my dream, specially those global branding Stores, like LV, Chanel, or others...unluckly i always worked in IT area, seems a little bit far away from Retailing area.. But now i would like to try to search that area without any specific retail work experiences..i hope i will have good luck!

I don't really see what kind of skills i have obtained during the past three years with kids, which can be used for find a job. Maybe i am too negative, but it's true that i have tried many time, all the applications had non respondence.
I don't know if my CV has problem? or me personal?
life is so hard!

Aim high and be pleasently surprised when it works out. I completely understand you probably feel out of your element at this point after being at home with kiddos and making them your priority. I think only a person who has done it completely understands the second guessing that you might be experiencing and feeling completely lost at the job market and being afraid to make the first step. I have to say it is all absolutely normal. I think this place is actually giving all thumbs up for moms returning to work, being very supportive and encouraging, in fact I have never experienced more positive and generally very supportive attitude to this than here.. Do the first move, try not to worry too much and the rest will take care of itself.

you are completely right, it is very hard for me to do the first move. the first step is extremly heave than normal. I don't know how to start? where to start? I have no direaction at all. It seems i am out of the world after three years.
During past three years , only concentrated on both kids day and night, never catch up some updated information..Maybe i am too old already, 34.
