Holiday entitlement

Hello all, this is basically my first post (after the introductions), and to ask a question about leaving.

How does the holiday entitlement work here in Switzerland?

I always thought that all countries were the same, and that the holidays you used in the year corresponded to the time worked in the previous year (except for the first year, I think they're sort of a bonus).
However, I'm leaving at the end of June and was told that my holiday saldo was only 7 days. Well, the total is 23 and I've used 5 this year, so shouldn't I receive payment for the remaining 16 days?
They should even pay me for holidays from next year, corresponding to the time worked this year, but I suppose they are covered by the ones from the first year.

I just wanted to make sure about the law before really asking here at work...

Thanks!

Re: Holiday entitlement

If you worked until 31st December then yes. Pro rata you'll get about 7 as they're giving you.

Work until 31st December and you'll get your 16

Re: Holiday entitlement

Oh ok, but I thought it was as I was saying, that this year I was entitled to the 23 days because I worked the full last year.

Thanks anyway

*reading around, I see otehrs have asked the same questions so no point in posting twice*

Re: Holiday entitlement

Hi,

it is always based on the number of days you have worked in the current year and bears no relation to how much you worked in the previous year unless you carried holidays over.

Have fun

Martin

Re: Holiday entitlement

you're confusing bonus (which is paid this year and is based on last year) and vacation. Vacation is given to you x days per year and if you work 50% (2½ days a week OR quit at the end of June), your vacation entitlement is adjusted accordingly.
