Another salary question - admin assistant

Hello everyone,

I am going to have several job interviews next week and I have several questions to ask concerning the salary issue. I am hoping to get some advice from you. I thank you in advance.

One job is Communication Administrative Assistant, the main responsibilities for this job are support the Communication director and the Communication team, dealing with the media and arranging meetings and presentations. One the job advertisement, they asked for someone ideally has 12 years of experience, and with special language requirement. I called them to ask that I reached the language requirement but I only have 5 years of experience in related field, is it still worth of trying to apply... They said yes, and called me a week after that they want to have an interview with me and also sent me some documents to fill out to take with me to the interview. There are two questions that I don't know how to answer...

1. Which starting salary are you reckoning with? 13 X CHF
2. How do you want to insure your salary with the sickness daily compensation insurance (KTV)?

I really have no clue that how much should a communicattion administration assistant with 5 years of experience and very stong langugaes skills get yearly or monthly. Please give me some advice on this. Many thanks.....

Re: Salary Question~~Urgent!!

Ask them at interview what they do beyond the 90 days sick - there are social contributions IIRC plus some employers do *more* for you.

What do you want to earn in the job? Some pay 12 times, some 13, some also with bonus too. What total renumeration do you think you're worth?

Personally I wait until they offer the job and then negotiate. When they've got to the end of the line and you push them a little, you will find this is your best time (within reason).

Re: Salary Question~~Urgent!!

financial markets recruitment is really more my field but a good sales assistant (comparative experience and responsibilities) would expect between CHF 75 - 80K p.a. (CHF 5,700 + p.m.).

Banking in Zurich usually pays top dollar but I would use this as a starting point.

cheers Bernie

Re: Salary Question~~Urgent!!

Thanks a lot for all of your great tips...

I wanted to negotiate with them after I am sure I have the job offer. The main reason that I am asking advice now is because they sent this document with all the questions about salary expectations, sick leave and other staff. I think it's better that I have some ideas about the salary starting point. So, ladies and gentlemen, keep the great advicecoming...

Thanks a lot to all of you...

You might find this useful.
You can find a lot of salary calculators if you Google. I'm in the French area here so I would Google calculateur salaire and restrict the search to .ch under the domain in advanced search. This produces a lot of calculators which may help you.

Re: Salary Question~~Urgent!!

We can estimate what you should be paid but in all honesty what do you think your services are worth? You can answer this question honestly based on previous employment salary. For an admin assistant role with extensive experience I would say in the order of 70-85 K.

Re: Another salary question - admin assistant

Sorry I haven't answered earlier but the salary negotiation for the grill operators in Mongolia took longer than expected.

I think is really a question of how much creedance (with or without the clearwater revival option) one can give to a "communicattion administration assistant with 5 years of experience and very stong langugaes skills" (sic). Is the main duty of the task you describe the communication between the Communication director and the Communication team ? if so the job will require a level of precision and expertise hitherto not seen since the influx of Polish-Rivet-Buyers back in '07.

I am surprised you find it necessary to ask the salary question as it is clear that the answer lies at 63276.54CHF per year. If you are good, you may be able to raise that to 63277, but it really depends on the end of year budget stipulations.

There were hoards of those Mongolian grill operatives just throwing random food on the grill, and I just couldn't get away in time. Sorry.
