I am invited for an interview in Roche in Basel. The position is Scientist in Pharmaceutical research. I would be glad to find people who worked or currently are working in Roche or Basel pharmaceutical indutry in general. I will appreciate their notes, advices and guidance. Any information about working environment, salaries, research facilities will be so helpful.

Specifically, I would like to get some hints about main questions that are commonly discussed in such interviews. Does they address mainly scientific or personal skills?

I am also wondering about the reasonable salary expectations. I am currently approaching the end of my PhD which I am pursuing in industry in Berlin, Germany. I really have salary range for a similar job in Germany. I donot know what the equivalent in Swiss should be. I assume that I should multiply my estimation for germany by a factor of 1.3 because of the greater life expenses in Swiss. I should then multiply by 1.5 for the conversion from Euro to CHF.
So Salary in Basel in CHF = Salary in Germany * 1.3 * 1.5
I will appreciate if someone can help me with better estimations or with a real examples.

Hi, I can only tell you that in academia (ETH) salary levels for postdoctoral scientists are close to 2x the level in Germany before taxes (to be precise ~5200 against ~3000 euro per month for EG13 TVoeD entry level). After taxes you will end up with well over twice as much. Good luck with your interview

BTW, my BF may get an interview for Lab Head from Novartis R&D in June, (Ph.D. with 5 years post-doc, non EU citizen), we are on the same boat, being grilled by the reasonable salary expectation, too.
