Oh, one last suggestion.

A switch in mindset from "I really need this job" to something more along the lines of:

"I would be excited to work for this company because this is what I have to offer them, and I am positive my skills and talents will contribute greatly to the growth of this company"

reflecting on both your job search, application, interview, and negotiation process will do wonders for your career.

At least....it seems to work for me.

(shrug)

I agree with this also it's a mutually benefitial situation. They have to read your CV and think yes this person can do the job.

This method worked for me. I've quadrupled my wage in the last 6 months, and I've been offered 6 positions 4 of which I turned down. Don't forget any interview is practice but make sure you prepare well and put full effort into each one, so do you're research. See what the company are doing etc etc.

Which means you both have to gain, don't under sell, yet don't over sell. Not easy, but that's the skill!

As soon as it stops becoming mutually benefitial that's the time to start applying for other jobs.

Re: [ettiquette] Job application

Indeed I agree. I was just admitting my 'despair' to you guys, coz you´re not my potential employers .

Coming from New Zealand where things are so much less regulated (An@l?) (and noone requests snail mail apps anymore ), it´s taking a real mind shift to get used to the ettiquette here.

I´ll press on with the snail mail approach for now and see. Either way it won´t be a huge deal if it doesn´t work... Thinking positively - it has at least been a good learning curve.

Does this include spell-checking your application to ensure that you quadrupled your salary ?

Just hugely lucky with negotiations on pay sometimes it can't be done and people are unwilling to move, but luck takes you only so far.

Plus the first job was so low paid I was working for gruel and bread.

Was only a matter of time Dave, only a matter of time before someone rumbles me. Until then I'm lying low and pretending i know what I'm doing haha!

Didn't say I was perfect, but you'd expect a cv to be spell checked!

Beneficial might be more correct I feel!
