Software Engineer at a Bank...

Hi there,

As quite a few of you probably work as software engineers for swiss banks I figured this would be the right place to ask my questions.

I might be offered a Job as a Software Engineer for Clariden Leu in Zürich. I've never worked for a Bank before. All my previous jobs including my current job were for software companies. No of course I am a bit cautious and would like to know how it is to work as a Software engineer for a bank other than for any other kind of company. Would you recommend doing it? What do I have to be aware of? Does anyone of you work for Clariden Leu? If yes, how is the climate there?

I'm quite happy where I work now, but would like to take my career one step further. I just don't want to sacrifice a job with a good climate and nice collegues against a better paid job in a bad environment.

Any help is appreciated...

Re: Software Engineer at a Bank...

Almost impossible to answer any of your questions as they're all pretty much going to be entirely specific to you and the job you end up in.

Software is software however, and it doesnt really matter what kind of company you're writing software for.

If working as an IT bod for a financial company was rubbish then there would probably only be about 50% as many people on this forum as the rest would have gone home.

Being a bit less flippant. It really depends on what you are expecting. Where are you working at the moment ? The environment may be pretty similar.

If its IT rather than real software then the work seems to be much of a muchness. Column of figures booked here needs to be booked here. Nothing to excite the blood I expect.

Clariden Leu is a part of Credit Suisse, not a bad place to work IMHO.
