Hello,

My wife and I are moving to Lausanne in August and, while I have a job myself, my wife is seeking work in the area. My wife works as a Medical/Science writer and hence is looking for firms or universities requiring someone skilled in this area.

I know the pharmaceutical industry is bigger in the north but obviously we're in Lausanne so are looking for work in this region. Would probably consider beyond Lausanne even as far as Geneva if it is practical to commute there (especially if we live half-way between Lausanne/Geneva).

Many thanks for any advice you can give us (yes we have done some research already but would appreciate your input).

Medical/Science writers are always in high demand, but .... in Basel. I know of a couple of agencies that were staffing, but in Basel to serve the big pharma companies (it seems that no one writes her own papers....). In the French part, i can remember Nestle research center and the CERN. In Nestle, i know for a fact they have people to do the technical writting for them, but i am not so sure in CERN.

Yes she has considered working remotely and has done so in the past. Are companies in Basel etc amenable to remote working 3-5 days a week?

Hello Mark,

I would say that most companies are actually getting their technical copy done by free lance/ agencies.... Either way, a good native english speaker scientific writer is very difficult to find in this country - it is a job in high demand.... It would be a question of puting her name in the market place....
