I found that there is Guinness Festival in Sion on second weekend of August. Sounds fun, but no one knows about it around me... Has anyone been to this festival? Is it good?
Very good and good. OK. Sounds like worth going. Thanks!
Well, I guess I will be able to enjoy Guinness Beer there for sure anyway. Guinness tastes much better in Irland though...
To those who is interested in the festival, here is the info.
I did go to the Guinness Festival and enjoyed it alot!!
Music was brilliant and the atomospher was great too.
( It was something different, I must say...)
I will go there next summer too if I can!
I 'd recommend it if anyone ask me my oppinion!!
(If it not ranining...of course. It was lucky that it wasn't raining!)
As summer festivals go it's quite small and quaint, e.g. there are small gaggles of bearded geeks (even the girls), forming circles and chains pretending to do Celtic dancing!
They pumped up the prices last year to pay for some "big name" groups, so I found it a little steep, especially as there's no second stage and therefore big gaps between the bands.
There's a camping field right next door for the fool hardy otherwise there's a shuttle bus (navette) every 30 minutes from Sion rail station. There's a small smattering of food stalls on site but nothing scintillating. You'll also find one or two stalls selling "alternative" clothes and trinkets.
If you like Celtic music, it's worthwhile. If you want to party, party, party then maybe, no. Be prepared to meet lots of strange Swiss pretending to be Scottish (or Irish!)
Satursday's headline band are La Bottine Souriante from Québec province. They are absolutly fabulous, so much so, that even the non-geeks will be up and dancing the Rigaudon.

Re: Have you been to Guinness Festival in Sion?
We went a few years ago and really enjoyed ourselves.
Didn't get to see much music (though I watched Mary Black from the side), because both nights we walked past the security guard into the backstage hospitality tent.
