hey, i am from india...and am staying in sierre in switzerland from last couple of months.. i miss Indian food. Can anybody tell me about the good indian restaurants in switzerland, so that i can have the pleasure of eating some indian food...???
Not much help in the short term, but the Terrace Hotel in Engelberg has an Indian buffet from April to September. They bring catering staff from India, and cater for hundreds of Indian tourists each day, so it's a far cry from anything you'll find in an "Indian" restaurant catering for foreigners.

IIRC they charge just chf27 for all you can eat if you dine in the main room, at big tables along with the tourists. Done that a few times, but for the princely sum of chf39 you can have the whole thing brought to your private table on the terrace, again as much as you want, refills of anything as you fancy it. One meat (chicken) or fish dish and about half a dozen veg and rice dishes, along with four or five types of bread, salads etc. etc.

Absolutely superb, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

But you'll have to wait until April

Re: Indian restaurants??

I had no idea Indian food was so popular in Zurich! I've been googling for a bit now trying to figure out where to find a good Indian place for dinner tonight, and I should have just come here...

Re: Indian restaurants??

You might also want to check out King's Kurry's ready-to-eat dishes that are available in most Migros branches - find the Anna's Best section. The INDIA range is the relevant one. Watch out because different dishes have different CHILLI ratings (find one that suits you - though you can always add pickles and/ or real chillies if the dishes available aren't hot enough for you; BTW, for those not used to Indian cuisine, avoid drinking water if any dish is too hot (the water doesn't really do anything to reduce the chilliness, and you simply sweat - instead, use bread/ rice/ yoghurt/ bananas to reduce the piquancy).

There should also be three different sorts of King's Kurry's Lassi available in Migros, though in a different section.

Not the sort of place everyone will be able to frequent on a routine basis (Trop cher) but for the occasional one, it's terrific...Khana Mandir in Nyon

We just visited Chalet India in Horgen Oberdorf for the second time. It was FANTASTIC. Beautiful food, Tandoori chicken, butter chicken, Lamb curry, cauliflour curry, Dal, chickpea curry, and big variety of chutney, raita, popodom, salad, and an endless supply of crispy Naan served at the table and replenished as soon as you finish them. Service was impeccable, friendly and fast. 19.50 all you can eat. With a lakeview, and comfortable interior, this place has now become my favorite Indian Restaurant in Switzerland (number 2 being Tandoori BBQ in Zurich). If you haven't tried it, you must...it is right across the street from the Horgen Oberdorf train station.
I second this. I ate there as well...it was really good. The wait staff also speaks english

+1 to that. We went to Chalet India yesterday evening. Best Indian in the region by far. - only the service was a little slow as it was really busy there. They even made a peshwari naan even though it is not on the menu.

But here is a question, why do non of the Indian restaurants in CH have proper poppadoms with all the trimmings? Most just have an over-cummin seeded variant with some yogurt dip.

Has anyone tried Vulkan in Zurich, which I believe is a sister restaurant?

Yep I've been to the Vulkan a couple of times Jako and next to the Tandoori BBQ it's the best I've found so far in Zurich. It's reasonably priced, and the food was nicely spiced, maybe a little oily 1 time, and definitely worth a visit.
