The 3 Amigos in Bassersdorf had to close down due to a dispute with the owners of the building and now, much the same thing openend in Oerlikon. I have been guest of them in their Bassersdorf location for many years and they always were good. And the Mexican wines they have are a real surprise.

That's a shame it had to close. I've been there a few times with friends and always enjoyed the food, drink and pleasant service.

Been to 3 Amigos, it was nice. Not wildly exciting but the food/service/ambience was fine.

Re: Mexican Food in Oerlikon

I have yet to find an authentic Mexican restaurant here, but I did go to the 3 Amigos when it was in Bassersdorf. Food was tasty (albeit more TexMex) and the Margaritas were good.

Yes been there for lunch as my office is in the area.

The food was definitely good.

It is a bit on the expensive side as far as lunchtime menu is concerned mind you.

Tres Amigos has the best beef Fajitas I've had in Europe - and, better than any place on the East Coast of the US. Very nice people too. They don't know about margaritas on the rocks, but their frozen ones are good. As a native Texan, I have pretty high standards for Mexican food and these guys really get it right!

We were furniture shopping in Dübendorf on Saturday and although we didn't find what we were looking for we rounded it all off by going into the Tres Amigos that is next to Mobitare and Pfister and had some excellent Fajitas.

Well, I guess their fajitas are better than their enchiladas, then. We went there a month ago (the one in Dübendorf), and my husband and I ordered enchiladas (2 different kinds) and both were NOTHING like what you'd get at a more authentic restaurant in the US. Mine was even made with a peanut sauce, which I'd certainly never seen before. And there was practically no cheese on or in them. We also got nachos as an appetizer and I was surprised at how dry they were -- not a drop of salsa. Needless to say, I'm *still* looking for and hoping to find a really good Mexican restaurant here...

Re: Mexican Food in Oerlikon

I've eaten a lot of Mexican food and I'm really sceptical about anything being worth swallowing in Europe at all. All the flavours here seem really dull and stodgy - they can never get that coriander/chilli/lime sharpness right and you always end up with a mouth stuffed full of floury, undercooked tortilla and cold, tough beef strips. I just make my own (although I don't have a tortilla press here, it was too heavy to bring on the plane).

As a mexican, the only restaurant in zurich that I could recomend is
By Khalid - Casa Alegria

They have a facebook webpage with specifications. Funny enough it doesnt seem to be run by a mexican and all the waiters are hindi, but i can promiss you they get really close, if not to mexican food.
I still miss tacos al pastor and other things, but the fajitas there are amaizing and they give you the guacamole, and nice hot tortillas de harina.

Hope you enjoy it as much as i do everytime i can go.

Re: Mexican Food in Oerlikon

Tres Amigos is decent. It will not come close to what you get in the southwest US or Mexico, but it's good for Europe. Also...fajitas are generally considered Tex-Mex. My Mexican American wife had to correct me on that mistake some time ago.

If you crave 'real' Mexican, make your own with ingredients from El Mais (if you are in the Zurich area).

Just checked them out on FaceBook and saw they are in Glattbrugg.

Am almost certain that's the one a friend who lives there recommended to me earlier this week.

Apparently, their drinks are pretty good too!

Thanks! I'll try this place out (I hadn't heard of it before).

They seem to also have their own website that includes a posted menu:

Re: Mexican Food in Oerlikon

P.S. If anyone has a recipe for a good mild or medium red (not green) enchilada sauce, I'd love it if you could PM me with it.

I've tried a few recipes for it that I found online but didn't end up liking any of them.
