So, I want to go to the cinema. The film I want to see is being shown at Pathe and Capitol and all the times suit me. Is one better (thinking mainly of comfort and price) than the other or are they much of a muchness?

If it's in the Pathé Kücklin Saal 1 (I think King's Speech is currently showing), then that's the best choice.

Pay extra for the deluxe seats. You can choose either armchairs or two seater sofas. You get a free drink (we usually go for prosecco), a free sandwichy thing delivered during the film, free popcorn. There's also M&Ms on the bar, and a little bell to call for service during the film.

It's about 15CHF more than the normal seats, but with the freebies there's not much in it and the experience is far better.

I remember when I was here last year going to the movies a couple of times on Monday, which was discount day. I popped into El Dorado the other day and was told that they no longer have it. Is this the case with all the cinemas now, or is it just at the moment while the school holidays are on (and we are saturated with Harry Potter!)?

CHF19.00 is quite a chunk for a movie!

A few months ago I went to the Kino Eldorado. At the end of the film the cleaners walked in, looked around quickly, and then turned all the lights off.

We had great difficulty getting down the stairs to the light switches behind the curtain, it took about 5 minutes of fumbling in the dark.

Eventually we found an usher to complain to, but she wasn't very sympathetic.

I used to have a girlfriend like that too...
